About Co-operators
Co-operators was founded in 1945 in Saskatchewan by farmers who had lost their savings and life insurance during the Great Depression. The Saskatchewan Wheat Pool contributed $25,000 to start what would become Canada's only insurance cooperative owned by other cooperatives.
Today, Co-operators is owned by 46 member organizations — co-ops, credit union centrals, and farm organizations — with nearly 7,000 employees, over 2,800 licensed insurance representatives, and more than 600 locations across Canada.
