Read this before you shop
The single most common mistake we hear on the phone is someone asking us to put their prescription into an Oakley Meta Vanguard. We cannot, and neither can anyone else. Oakley's own product listing for the Vanguard says “No prescription, just pure Oakley style and protection” (oakley.com). It is a sun-only frame sold in four PRIZM lens variants. If you want an Oakley Meta pair with your prescription in it, the model that takes one is the Oakley Meta HSTN.

Which Meta glasses can you get with a prescription?

Read the board and the shape of the answer is obvious. Six of the eight are Ray-Ban Meta. Two of those six — Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics — are the ones Meta designed around prescription wearers. On the Oakley side, the HSTN takes a prescription and the Vanguard does not.
How much are Meta glasses with a prescription in Canada?
Across all eight models the device is CAD $469 to $639 at Charm Optical, depending on the model and the finish. That is the whole device range — nothing above it, nothing below it. But the $639 top end is the sun-only Vanguard, which cannot be glazed. Narrow it to the seven that actually take a prescription and the device is $469 to $599.

Why is the Oakley Meta Vanguard sun-only?
The Vanguard is the sport frame of the group. It wraps hard around the face in one continuous piece, and it ships in four PRIZM lens variants. Oakley's own listing for it is blunt about what that means: “No prescription, just pure Oakley style and protection” (oakley.com).
This is not Charm being unhelpful. Oakley does not offer a prescription option for the Vanguard, and a deeply wrapped one-piece shield and a surfaced prescription lens are two different objects — we cannot glaze one to your prescription.
So if your search was “prescription Oakley Meta glasses”, the honest answer has two halves:

One more correction worth making
There is no photochromic or Transitions prescription version of the Vanguard either. Some searches suggest people are hunting for one. It does not exist. If you want lenses that darken outdoors and carry your prescription, that is a job for a regular pair of glasses — and a very good one. We fit those every day.
What are the Ray-Ban Meta Optics styles, Blayzer and Scriber?
These two are the reason this article exists. Every other model on the board is a smart frame that can be glazed with a prescription. The Optics styles were designed the other way round: prescription first.
In its own announcement of the line, Meta wrote that it was “rolling out an optical-forward pair of Ray-Ban Meta glasses that support nearly all prescriptions”, and described the two shapes as “a rectangular ‘Blayzer Optics’ design available in two sizes (Standard and Large) and a more rounded ‘Scriber Optics’ frame” (Meta).
Meta also lists the fit hardware an optician actually cares about on those two frames: overextension hinges, interchangeable nose pads, and optician-adjustable temple tips. That is the difference between a frame you tolerate and a frame you wear. A smart frame sits on your face for far longer than a normal pair, because you keep it on to take the call, and a bridge that is a millimetre wrong will end that relationship inside a week.
Both Optics styles are $569 with us. That is $100 more than the entry Ray-Ban Meta price and, if you have a real prescription, it is usually the right $100.
What about “Gen 2”?
A lot of people search for Meta glasses Gen 2 with prescription. Here is the plain version.
Ray-Ban Meta has been through more than one generation, and generation labels move around between retailers and between markets. One of our listings carries the label in its own product name — the Ray-Ban Meta Headliner Low Bridge Fit (Gen 2). The rest are listed by shape.

What actually decides the prescription-lens price?
Four things, and none of them are visible from a search result. This is the honest reason there is no single number.
How strong your prescription is
A mild prescription can be surfaced in a standard material. A strong one needs a thinner, denser material to stay flat enough to sit in the frame and light enough to sit on your nose. That is the single biggest mover on the line.
Whether you need one distance or several
Single-vision lenses correct one distance. If you are over about 45 and you want to read your phone through the same pair, you are into progressive lenses, which are a more complex lens and a more careful fitting.
Which frame you picked
The eight models are not the same shape. A flatter, more upright front takes a wider band of prescriptions comfortably than a curved one. That is exactly why Meta built the Optics styles, and it is why we check the prescription against the specific frame rather than in the abstract.
What you add on top
Anti-reflective, a tint, a photochromic that darkens outdoors. Each is a real cost and each is optional. We will tell you which ones matter for your prescription and which ones are a preference.
Put those four together and two people can walk out of the same store with the same model on their face and two very different invoices. Neither was overcharged. They bought different lenses.
Can you try Meta glasses on in Edmonton before you order?

Do you need an eye exam first?
You need a current prescription. That is not the same as needing a new exam.
If your prescription is still valid, bring it in or send it over and we will work from it. If it has expired, or you have never had one, a comprehensive adult eye exam at Charm Optical is $99 and is booked by appointment at see.charmoptical.ca. Alberta Health Care covers a routine eye exam for children 18 and under and for seniors 65 and over.
One thing worth saying plainly: a smart frame is still a pair of glasses. If the prescription in it is two years stale, it will be a comfortable pair of glasses that gives you a headache by three in the afternoon.
