Finding a frame that looks good and feels comfortable comes down to three things: your face shape, the frame material, and how strong your prescription is.
Face shape matters more than you'd think. Round faces tend to look great in angular, rectangular frames. Square faces balance out with rounder or oval frames. Oval faces have the easiest time — most shapes work. The best advice is to just try things on. Our team can pull frames you might not have picked for yourself.
Frame materials affect comfort and durability. Acetate frames are lightweight and come in the widest range of colours. Metal frames offer a thinner, more understated look. Titanium is the lightest and strongest. For kids, flexible materials like TR-90 hold up better to daily wear.
Your prescription strength plays a role too. Higher prescriptions mean thicker lenses, so smaller frames help keep things clean and light. High-index lenses can thin things out. Not sure what works best? That's what our opticians are here for.
Single vision lenses correct one field of vision — either distance or reading. We finish these in-house the same day.
Progressive lenses replace bifocals with a smooth gradient — distance at the top, reading at the bottom. No visible line.
Add-on coatings: Anti-reflective coating reduces glare from screens and headlights. Blue light filter lenses are available same-day at our Ellerslie Road location. Photochromic lenses darken automatically in sunlight.
Not sure which combination makes sense? Come see us — we'll figure it out together.
Children's eye exams are covered annually under Alberta Health Care. We carry kid-friendly frames with flexible hinges, rubberized temples, and impact-resistant materials. Polycarbonate lenses are the standard — lighter and significantly more shatter-resistant.
Book online or visit us at our Ellerslie location.
